The Christmas season can't begin until I have read If You're Missing Baby Jesus by Jean Gietzen. It's a short, true story about Jean's family Christmas in 1943, the year their family purchased a new nativity scene. To their surprise, the little box contained 2 baby Jesus figurines.
The adventure that ensues reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas. Tonight Hunter, Andi, and I sat down to read the story (which I can't do with dry eyes).
Every year, I find a little bit of myself in her grumpy father and not enough of her optimistic, compassionate mother.
I highly recommend your family makes it a tradition to read it every year as well! Maybe this year Jesus needs you to take Him to a 205 Chestnut Street just across town to a family that is 'missing baby Jesus.'
